FIREBIRD. Jeanneau 32i. Built 2006. Based in Largs Yacht Haven.
For several years we have had the mind-set that we should buy bigger and bigger yachts, until we suddenly realised that we had left our roots behind. Flamingo Yacht Charter, started out hiring small boats, which were affordable by families and small groups of friends. Central heating, hot water with shower, fridge, electric windlass, GPS chart plotter, full instrumentation etc. Unlike most of our other 'small' yachts, she has wheel steering. And what a wheel. It's the biggest in the fleet. This, combined with the 20hp, new generation Yanmar diesel, makes her a dream to handle in the close confines of the marina.
Her accommodation is very conventional, with a V shaped double up front, two singles in the saloon, and a very generous double at the back. Her toilet, amidships to port, is also of the modern idium with easily cleaned surfaces, such that a quick hose down with the shower head, and it's done. The small chart table is opposite this, and the L shaped galley, aft to starboard. Her rig, too, is typical of the latest round of cruisers. The chainplates are set well out on the side deck, preventing the use of an overlapping genoa, so her smallish jib is augmented by a good sized mainsail, set in a lazy bag, and controlled by single line slab reefing, all done from the cockpit. Early reports suggest her sailing performance is very satisfying.
She is equipped to our usual high standard, with dinghy and outboard motor as standard.
